Fracking of the Taylorsville Basin

The Shore Exploration and Production Corporation has secured over 80,000 acres of leased land with the plan to drill for oil and natural gas in the Taylorsville Basin. The land they have leased covers large portions of Virginia's coastal plain, from the Northern Neck along the Potomac River to northeast of Richmond.

Now the company is looking to expand their hold of the Taylorsville Basin into Southern Maryland,  including Charles, St Mary's, Prince George's, Calvert, and Anne Arundel counties. The company will not currently lease in Maryland due to an order by Governor Martin O'Malley that prevents the Maryland Department of the Environment from approving drilling permits until a scientific study examining fracking is completed. It is thought that the study will be completed later this year, and pending the results, could result in the legalization of fracking in Maryland.

  1. I've told a number of people about this, and many can't believe it's true or even possible, often assuming I'm confusing it with the George Washington National Forest.
