Report Water Chestnut Sightings on Potomac
The invasive water chestnut plant was found this summer in Pohick Bay, Va.
The water chestnut was once a huge problem in the Potomac from Washington downstream to about the Route 301 Bridge. The plant was harvested for many years in the Potomac until it finally died out decades ago. Its reappearance is a concern. The plant will die off for the year after the first hard freeze, but in the meantime, boaters who see this plant are asked to photograph it and report its location to ICPRB. Please be our eyes on the river, and send information to info@icprb.org
